Why YouLead?

There are so many tough social problems in the world, and many great people who are working to address them. But sometimes we need to learn new ways of doing things, and to learn from others. YouLead helps you make progress on the difficult, important challenges facing your social organisation, with these benefits:

  • Learning for practical problem-solving - YouLead focuses on learning as a means of problem-solving, of getting difficult things done in an easier way; our courses are first to help you do something, to take action and leadership on the tough challenges for your organisation or your community.
  • Just-in-time solutions - Instead of learning in advance and forgetting what you learn, online learning allows you to find and learn how to do something at the time you need to learn it - that's called 'just-in-time' learning.
  • Low cost & convenient - instead of going to a seminar spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars, learn for only a few dollars, just what you need from your desk or mobile device 24/7.
  • Easy to learn - YouLead style is open, easy to follow, with plenty of examples, step by step guides, demonstrations and downloadable templates you can edit and apply to your particular problem, at your own pace.
  • Ask questions - most programs give you access to our student discussion platform on Slack, where you can ask the Instructor or other students questions to broaden your learning. Some courses even include live team or individual coaching as well.
  • Focus on strategic business skills - Social and government organisations are increasingly needing strategic business and entrepreneurial skills to develop new income streams and build stronger organisations.
  • Better knowledge sharing - Knowledge sharing is patchy in the social sector, and a platform for sharing how we do things, not just what we do, is needed to increase efficiency, effectiveness and spread better ideas and practices.
  • Experienced practitioners - Often people with experience can help as they have 'been there' and can help with practical ways of solving common problems that others have encountered before; YouLead instructors are all experienced experts with a commitment to social mission-based organisations and government agencies.
  • Efficient learning - Our traditional training and development processes of miss the boat as content is taught to an average learner, and doesn't target specifically what each person needs. Online learning is 'pull' learning where people find and learn what they need when they need it, so they remember more and learn quicker.

Who we are

YouLead was founded by Dale Renner, an experienced strategy consultant to social sector executives. Dale was interested in how we can innovate the way we solve problems in the social sector. Some of Dale's clients were adjusting to the introduction of the NDIS and consumer-directed care models in Australia, and they needed to grow more business-savvy skills and thinking in their workforce. This was the genesis of YouLead.

YouLead is a social business with a mission to help build a stronger not-for-profit sector.

YouLead is a business name of Iconic Consulting Pty Ltd based in Melbourne, Australia.

Dale Renner, YouLead Founder

My social journey began in childhood, as the son of a World Vision Executive, I lived in Central America and witnessed the impact of poverty and war on the indigenous people of Guatemala and Mexico. After a start as a lawyer, I moved to the design industry and then into management consulting where I worked for 15 years with clients large and small across a wide range of industries such as education, government, energy, health, tourism, export, insurance and non-profit. Today I am a consultant in strategy, innovation and marketing to social services and not-for-profit organisations. I also run a social innovation accelerator 'Unreasonable Lab Australia' with a friend. I live in Melbourne, Australia.

I look forward to meeting you on our learner discussion forums. Feel free to contact me if you want further help for your not-for-profit organisation in strategy, innovation or marketing.
